A magnificent half-century from Umesh Valjee helped a Middlesex Disability side defeat MCC by six wickets at Lord’s.
Valjee scored 72 from 65 deliveries in a knock that included nine fours and two sixes. He had support from George Greenway (26), whilst Aaryan Janjale (15) and James Nordin (11 not out) also made double figures as we chased down the required 152 with two balls to spare.
In a well-paced chase, Middlesex’s batters played fluently – keeping up with the required rate throughout and rotating the strike well.
Nordin finished the game in style, scooping Penny over his head and watched the ball race away towards the Barclays Media Centre.
In the first innings, it was Craig Fowler and Nordin who lead the way with the ball – both taking three wickets.
Three wickets fell inside the powerplay and MCC found themselves 38/3. From that point however, there were a few partnerships and a half-century from Australian, Peter Hatzoglou (50), and a blistering 40 off 17 balls from McCallum propelled the home side to 151/7 in their 20 overs.
Kester Sainsbury also picked up a scalp, removing Morgan for a couple of runs in the fourth over.
Middlesex’s D40 First Eleven are next in action on Sunday 6 July, when they take on Surrey at William Perkin School.
