Middlesex Cricket is today delighted to confirm that top order batter, Ben Geddes, will Captain the side in this season’s Metro Bank One-Day Cup campaign.
Geddes, 24, joined Middlesex from Surrey at the end of last season and has impressed since arriving at Lord’s, hitting one century and four half-centuries for Middlesex in the Rothesay County Championship and two half-centuries in the Vitality Blast. Whilst at Surrey he Captained the Oval based side in the 2022 season throughout the Royal London Cup.
To date, Geddes has made 27 List-A appearances, all for Surrey, in which he has a top score of 92 and averages just short of 30 with the bat.
He will lead a Middlesex side that will be missing seven of its regulars, all leaving the Club in August to join their respective Hundred franchises, with Kane Williamson and Ryan Higgins both off to London Spirit, Leus du Plooy with Southern Brave, Tom Helm with Birmingham Phoenix, Stephen Eskinazi with Welsh Fire, Max Holden with Trent Rockets and Zafar Gohar, whist currently injured, off to the Oval Invincibles.
Speaking of the appointment of Geddes as the Club’s List-A Captain for this year’s Metro Bank One-Day Cup campaign, Middlesex Cricket’s Interim Men’s First Team Coach, Dane Vilas, commented:
“Ben is a player that has all the attributes required to make a good captain, and has previous experience in the role, having led Surrey in the same competition.
“Whilst being hugely competitive, with a real desire to win, he plays the game in a calm and assured manner, leads by example, is a clever player, and has an analytical approach to the game and the plans we’re implementing in match situations.
“The absence of several players opens the door for others to come into the squad and prove themselves and provides a great opportunity for the younger members of our squad to gain valuable first team experience under Ben’s leadership.
“We’re delighted that Ben has accepted our offer to lead the side this year, and we are looking forward to seeing how the group develops and plays with him as Captain.”
