MIDDLESEX CROWNED VITALITY BLAST LEAGUE TWO CHAMPIONS!

MIDDLESEX CROWNED CHAMPIONS OF THE INAUGURAL WOMEN'S VITALITY BLAST LEAGUE TWO COMPETITION

It was a day to remember yesterday for all involved in the Middlesex Women's set-up, as the Club lifted the first ever Women's Vitality Blast League Two trophy at Northamptonshire's County Ground, annihilating hot favourites Yorkshire in the final by ten wickets!

Having beaten Leicestershire Foxes by ten wickets in the first semi-final earlier in the day, Middlesex had to wait to see who they would be playing in the final, as Glamorgan and Yorkshire went head-to-head in the second semi-final of the day.

It was Yorkshire who prevailed, as the soon to be Tier One side beat Glamorgan by seven wickets to seal their place in the final.

With Yorkshire already assured of a Tier One place in 2026, they went into the final as hot favourites, with Middlesex hoping to provide the crowd with an upset on the final day of the competition, with Yorkshire having won all nine of their T20 encounters to get to the final.

Yorkshire skipper Madeline Ward won the toss and elected to bat first, but her side got off to the worst possible start, as Middlesex picked up three wickets in the powerplay to put the favourites on the back foot.

First, Saskia Horley accounted for Georgie Boyce, with the opener caught at mid-on by Sonali Patel for 4 in the second over, then Sterre Kalis was sharply caught at point by Riva Pindoria off Katie Wolfe for a duck in the third over, before the dangerous Lauren Winfield-Hill was bowled by Issy Routledge for 9 in the fourth over, as Yorkshire fell to 14 for 3.

The power play ended with Yorkshire in deep trouble on 22 for 3, from which they never recovered.

A fourth wicket fell in the tenth over, as Yorkshire tried to rebuild their innings, when Rebecca Duckworth was run out for 12, before Ami Campbell was bowled off the next ball for a duck by Hannah Davis, and at the halfway stage of their innings Yorkshire were struggling badly on 44 for 5.

Middlesex were sharp in the field and kept up the pressure with some tight bowling, as Yorkshire lost their sixth wicket in the 14th over when Olivia Thomas was caught and bowled by Rachana Cambampaty - Yorkshire, 58 for 6.

It was seven down in the 17th over as Beth Langston was caught by Pindoria off Cambampaty for 5, and eight down in the 18th over when Ward was bowled by Routledge for a top scoring knock of 39.

Yorkshire lost their ninth wicket off the final ball of their innings, with Cambampaty picking up her third wicket, with Yorkshire all out for 101 - left stunned by an incredible performance in the field by Middlesex.

Cambampaty's 3 for 30 the standout figures for Middlesex, with Issy Routledge's 2 for 18 a close second!

Having hit an unbeaten opening partnership of 109 to beat Leicestershire in the semi-final, Head Coach Marc Broom stuck with openers Finty Trussler and Issy Routledge in the final, as the pair made their way to the crease to chase a victory target of 102.

The pair never looked back, as Trussler hit her second half century of the day, to finish on 52* in an innings which included six fours and two maximums, whilst the composed Routledge at the other end finished unbeaten on 31, with four boundaries, as the Middlesex pair cruised home in just 13.1 overs to complete a dominant victory.

Routledge's two wickets and unbeaten innings earned her the player of the match trophy, capping a fine day for the all-rounder.

It was an incredible day for Middlesex, winning both matches without losing a wicket and picking up 19 wickets themselves, to cue some amazing scenes of celebration at the end of the day.

Congratulations to all involved on what was an outstanding and memorable day for the Club.

Our thanks go to all members and supporters who joined us at the County Ground to witness such a great occasion.
