Middlesex in the Community (MITC) were delighted to attend the third African Caribbean Cricket Festival at Grace Road, the home of Leicestershire County Cricket Club, on Sunday 20 July 2025.
At the event, which was a celebration of cricket and Caribbean culture, were several England and West Indian cricket legends.
Those celebrating included Courtney Walsh and Curtley Ambrose, two of the greatest fast bowlers cricket has seen. Devon Malcolm and Norman Cowans were there representing England – two fine pacemen in their own right!
Wearing the Middlesex badge was Mikey Thompson, a community coach for MITC.
The day was a collaboration between the ECB, Sport England, the ACE Programme, and the Leicestershire & Rutland Cricket Foundation and involved games between a Caribbean XI and a Windrush Trophy XI, which was followed by a match between the ACE Academy and Antigua & Barbuda U19.
The entertainment was plentiful and varied. Along with the matches on the main pitch there were All Stars and Dynamos coaching sessions, a dominoes tournament, netball, a live DJ and musical performances, as well as the opportunity to indulge in various Caribbean food delicacies.
Speaking about the event Mikey Thompson said:
“It was a day full of love and joy. It was wonderful to see people coming together in the name of cricket. I had a good chat with some real legends of the game, letting them know what MITC are doing for boys and girls of Caribbean heritage in the London boroughs we coach in.
“It would be great to have an event like this in London next year.”
