Middlesex Women are back on the road tomorrow, taking on Kent at The Spitfire Ground in another Vitality Blast double-header.
Head Coach, Marc Broom, has named a squad of 13 for the clash, with one change from the side that defeated Sussex Sharks last week, as Anisha Dissanayake comes in for Sonali Patel.
That victory saw Middlesex return to the top of the Tier Two South table, with five wins from six. It was another strong showing with the bat, as the top four all contributed valuable runs. Captain, Saskia Horley, once again led from the front with an impressive 42 off just 29 deliveries, well supported by Issy Routledge, Finty Trussler, and Gaya Gole, who added 35, 25, and 30 runs, respectively. Pippa Sproul kept the momentum going in the final few overs, with an unbeaten 12 from nine deliveries to finish the innings at 167/5.
With the ball, Middlesex had to be patient, but a disciplined fielding effort restricted Sussex to 152/7. The wickets were shared between Routledge, Horley, Hannah Davis, and Lauren Turner, along with two fantastic run-outs.
Kent, meanwhile, currently sit fourth in the table with one win from five matches. Most recently, they shared the points with Glamorgan after last week’s wash out.
Tomorrow marks the fourth meeting between Middlesex and Kent this season, but the first on Kent’s home turf. Middlesex claimed a convincing win in their Metro Bank One Day Cup opener, while in the T20 format, honours are even – Kent won their Vitality T20 Women’s County Cup meeting by five wickets, before Middlesex hit back with an 18-run victory earlier in the Blast campaign.
In that most recent encounter, both sides had their moments. Amy Gordon’s early breakthroughs put Middlesex under pressure, but a game-changing fifth-wicket stand between Horley and Sproul laid the platform for a competitive total of 140/8. While Kent replied assertively, most notably through Matilda Callaghan, who scored 44, Middlesex ultimately prevailed, with Horley capping a standout all-round performance by taking 2/23 from her four overs, as Kent were held to 122/6.
