Middlesex Cricket can today announce that Steven Fletcher, or Fletch, as he is better known to everyone, has informed the Club that he will leave his position as Communications Director in September, at the end of the current cricket season.
Fletch began working with the Club initially as a consultant, back in 2008, and in 2015 joined the Middlesex staff on a permanent basis, advancing to the role of Communications Director in 2022, a role he has fulfilled at the Club since.
He has been Middlesex’s Head of Media in all that time, has built up a large network of close contacts across the cricket media landscape, and is the voice that many members will be very familiar with, given the volume of interviews he does from behind the camera with players, coaches and Club representatives’ week in week out across the Club’s channels.
In his role as Communications Director, he has steered the Club through some difficult times in recent years and has done an exceptional job in protecting the Club’s reputation in the media - managing the press expertly through some very challenging times off the field.
In the Covid year of 2020 he spearheaded the way that Professional County Cricket Club’s live stream their matches, as the first county to introduce a multi-camera live broadcast, for members to enjoy watching the Club play from the comfort of their own homes whilst they were in lockdown.
Such was the success of the Club’s live stream, that in 2021, when the Indian Premier League was cancelled due to a second Covid outbreak, Sky Sports Cricket contacted the Club and requested that Fletch produce the Middlesex v Gloucestershire County Championship match for them live on Sky Cricket – a proud moment for him and for the Club as a whole.
Middlesex Cricket live streams have since been viewed almost 13 million times, with 2025 set to be the highest annual viewership yet, and Middlesex are still one of the frontrunners in producing quality county cricket coverage across all formats – something we are enormously proud of.
He leaves Middlesex having made many friends both inside the Club and throughout the Club’s membership, and he will always be welcome back at Lord’s in the future.
Speaking of his departure, Andrew Cornish, Middlesex’s Chief Executive Officer, commented:
“It’s always hard to say farewell to colleagues when they choose to leave, especially those who have been involved with the Club for such a length of time – 18 years in total in Fletch’s case - and have helped me as CEO and the Board deal with some well documented challenging situations.
“We are immensely grateful to Fletch for all he has done in his time with the Club and thank him for his many years of loyal and dedicated service. We wish him every success in the future and will be sure to give him a big send off when he leaves us.
“It’s great that he’s with us until the end of the season, and I’m sure many members who know him will want to take the opportunity to say their farewells to him too.”
