At the finest ground in world cricket, Lord's Cricket Ground - the spiritual home of the game, there's one place that is truly special to Middlesex members, and that's the Middlesex Room, where for decades, Middlesex members and their guests have flocked to watch our games, surrounded themselves with fellow Middlesex members to wax lyrical about the matches being played out in front of them, and have found sanctuary in comfortable and familiar surroundings with likeminded passionate Middlesex folk - all whilst enjoying the odd pint or two or glass of wine!
Well, on Sunday night, approximately 80 members joined the players, staff and Board Directors to bid a fond farewell to the Middlesex Room as we know it, for a drinks and nibbles event to say our farewells, as the facility is set to close down and undergo an incredible transformation as part of the MCC's Allen Stand re-development project, which gets underway soon.
Redevelopment of the Allen Stand begins in earnest at the end of August, however, the more observant among you will have already noticed that the right hand scoreboard that sits atop the Allen Stand was removed in early August, with just the left hand scoreboard in operation for our game last Sunday against Sussex Sharks.
The remaining scoreboard will be removed in early September, as part of the early phases of the Allen Stand redevelopment, so there will be no scoreboard in operation on top of the Allen Stand for our two remaining Rothesay County Championship matches at Lord's in September - a small price to pay I'm sure all members would agree, when you review the incredible plans that are in place for the new look Middlesex Room, which will open for Middlesex members when the redevelopment project is complete.
Throughout the redevelopment project, the Middlesex Room will be temporarily located to the Tavern Stand hospitality suites for the remainder of this season.
