MIDDLESEX V KENT SPITFIRES | SQUAD & MATCH PREVIEW | METRO BANK ONE-DAY CUP

MIDDLESEX V KENT SPITFIRES | SQUAD & MATCH PREVIEW | METRO BANK ONE-DAY CUP

Middlesex return to Metro Bank One-Day Cup action tomorrow when we welcome Kent Spitfires to Radlett Cricket Club.

The Seaxes will be hoping that yesterday’s seven-wicket defeat to Yorkshire was a mere blip, and they can return to winning ways as we continue our push for knockout qualification in the 50-over competition.

Last week obviously saw that record-breaking run chase at Durham and a spirited performance against Warwickshire at Rugby School, so many players are in form heading into the back end of the One-Day Cup.

Sam Robson has been in great form after he struck an unbeaten 169 in Chester-Le-Street and there were half-centuries for Josh De Caires (63) and Jack Davies (61) – players who have both passed 50 twice.

With the ball, Henry Brookes will be looking to continue his good run of form after he took the only three Yorkshire wickets to fall yesterday. Luke Hollman picked up career-best figures on Friday too, so he’ll be hoping to get the Kent batters in a tangle tomorrow.

Men’s Interim First Team Coach, Dane Vilas, has named a squad of 15 for the match. Zafar Gohar returns to the squad, having been released by Oval Invincibles. It is worth noting that loanee, Nathan Gilchrist, will be unavailable for selection given that Kent are his parent club.

As for Kent, well they come into this one off the back of a win against Lancashire at Beckenham. Jaydn Denly (91) and Ben Dawkins (85) put on 155 for the first wicket yesterday as the Spitfires posted 315/8 in 50 overs.

Matt Parkinson, the Lancashire-born leg-spinner, was the pick of the Kent bowlers – claiming 3/57 – including the final wicket as Red Rose were dismissed for 293 in the 48th over.

Group B is extremely tight and after the latest matches, us, Somerset, Sussex Sharks and Warwickshire all sit on 12 points. Remember, only the top three qualify for the knockouts.

In recent years, if you have five wins in the group stage, then you have a fairly good chance of qualifying – so a win tomorrow plus another on the road either at Wantage Road or Emirates Old Trafford would put us well and truly in the mix…

Tickets for tomorrow’s match at Radlett can be purchased HERE.

If you can’t join us in person then the match will be streamed live on the Club’s YouTube channel or alternatively, you’ll be able to find it via the match centre on the Middlesex Cricket website.
