MPCL SET FOR THRILLING FINISH AS TWO WEEKS REMAIN

MPCL SET FOR THRILLING FINISH AS TWO WEEKS REMAIN

Angus Fraser looks ahead to the last few weeks across the Middlesex Premier Cricket League as we enter the final stages of the season.

Middlesex Cricket’s most prominent Sunday League, the Middlesex Premier Cricket League, has reached crunch time with lots to play for in the remaining two weekends of cricket. This week – 23 August 2025 – everybody gets a rest before two nerve wrecking, season defining weekends of cricket brings the 2025 summer to a close.

Emotions will run high over the coming weeks and everyone in Middlesex wants this passion for the game to be managed and directed in the right way. Emotion is one of the principal reasons why we are involved in this fantastic game, and it is great to see the game played with passion. All we need to do is make sure this emotion is tempered and does not lead to poor behaviour. Winning, whilst hugely satisfying, is not a key to eternal happiness and losing, whilst incredibly disappointing, is not the end of the world. Cricket will be played again in 2026 and each of us will have the chance to have another go.

So, for the final two weeks of the season – play hard, play fair and play with respect to you opponents and match officials.

So how do things currently lie?

Premier Division

At the Top

The Premier Division is set for a thrilling finale with 20 points, one win, separatingthe top four teams in the Division.Leading the way are Harrow Lions, with 204 points. Then come Neasden and West Harrow on 191 and 190 points respectively. And the fourth contenders are Stallions who sit with 184 points.

The first big match of the final fortnight of competition sees Stallions play the leaders, Harrow Lions. A win for Harrow Lions would place them in a very strong position but defeat would likely see Stallions move them. As with the end of every season, teams will have half-an-eye on another ground as well as their own.

At the Bottom

South Harrow are relegated and Friends United, 28 points (1 ½ wins), behind 6th place Sri Lankan Cavaliers look destined to go down too.

Division One

At the Top

Peshwa, knowing they are already promoted as likely champions, can enjoy the final two rounds of matches in 2025. Peshwa currently sit 31 points ahead of second placed West End and 45 points ahead of United Sports. West End and United Sports play each other on 31 August 2025 with the winner set to join Peshwa in the Premier Division.

At the Bottom

Diu Daredevils are sadly down already and Rajput Samaj Sports look favourites to join them in Division Two. Rajput have won four of their last five games and will need to beat the likely Champions on the final day of the season to stay up.

Division Two

At the Top

As with Division One, four teams are competing for a move to the league above in 2026. Gangeshwar (210 pts) are best positioned as the side at the top and they will end Zahira’s hopes (190 pts) of the title, and probably promotion, if they defeat the third placed side in their next game on 31 August 2025. Zahira play another of their promotion rivals, Ealing Three Bridges (192 pts), who currently sit in second place, in their final game of the season. If results go the right way and the teams above them all take points from each other London Challengers could sneak through for promotion unnoticed as their final two matches are against mid-table teams.

At the Bottom

Young Puthoharis are 32 points adrift at the bottom and look set to be relegated.
