SQUAD & MATCH PREVIEW | MIDDLESEX V SOMERSET | MEN'S METRO BANK ONE-DAY CUP

SQUAD & MATCH PREVIEW | MIDDLESEX V SOMERSET | MEN'S METRO BANK ONE-DAY CUP

Middlesex’s men begin their Metro Bank One-Day Cup tomorrow when we welcome Somerset to Radlett Cricket Club and we have named a squad of 13 for the opening encounter.

It will be the first time that members and supporters will be able to see Ben Geddes captain the group, having been announced as skipper for the One-Day Cup campaign. The 24-year-old has captaincy experience under his belt after leading Surrey in the same competition during 2022.

Geddes joined the Club prior to the start of this season and has been a solid presence in the middle order during the Rothesay County Championship campaign – scoring 650 runs, notching one century and four fifties – with a best of 137 against Leicestershire at the Uptonsteel County Ground.

We will be without seven members of the playing squad throughout the One-Day Cup as they have been snapped up by Hundred franchises: Leus du Plooy (Southern Brave), Stephen Eskinazi (Welsh Fire), Zafar Gohar (Oval Invincibles), Tom Helm (Birmingham Phoenix), Ryan Higgins (London Spirit), Max Holden (Trent Rockets), Kane Williamson (London Spirit).

Irish seamer, Josh Little, will also be available for selection. The 25-year-old left-armer has taken 61 wickets in One-Day Internationals for his country, claiming best figures of 6/36 against Zimbabwe in 2023.

The side will play eight group matches over the next three weeks or so, with the top side in the group going through to the semi-final whilst second and third from each group play each other in the play-offs.

Last summer, Middlesex finished sixth in group A – missing out on qualification by three points. There were three wins against Northamptonshire, Kent and Lancashire respectively.

Somerset on the other hand were beaten finalists in a truncated match against Glamorgan at Trent Bridge. This term, they will be led by captain James Rew - who has captained the Club in the County Championship this summer already, the England Lions previously and was featured in England's Test squad against Zimbabwe in May.

The two sides met at Lord’s in the One-Day Cup last summer, with the Wyvern coming out on top by eight wickets. Australian, Riley Meredith, shone for the visitors – claiming four scalps – just like he did in the Vitality Blast encounter earlier in the summer at the same venue.

Tickets for all three One-Day Cup matches at Radlett can be purchased HERE.
