Middlesex are in Metro Bank One-Day Cup tomorrow action as they take on Hampshire in the play-off match at Radlett Cricket Club.
The Seaxes qualified yesterday in third place thanks to a thrilling one-wicket win over Lancashire at Emirates Old Trafford.
Nathan Fernandes was the stand-out performer yesterday, scoring a career-best List-A score (92) as we chased down the required 292 runs with just a single ball to spare.
Fernandes put on a stand of 126 for the seventh wicket with Sebastian Morgan (61), who himself recorded his first professional half-century. With the ball, the bowlers shared the wickets around; Henry Brookes and Luke Hollman leading the way with two wickets each as Lancashire posted 291/8 in their 50 overs.
Men’s Interim First Team Coach, Dane Vilas, has named a squad of 14 for tomorrow’s match.
Zafar Gohar and Ryan Higgins are available for selection. Gohar has been released by Oval Invincibles for the fixture and Higgins' involvement with London Spirit is now complete following their elimination in the group stage of the Hundred.
Sam Robson is the Club’s leading run-scorer in the competition with 454 runs so far and is averaging 64.85 with the bat. Captain, Ben Geddes, is next with 345 runs and is averaging a touch under 50 at 49.28.
Brookes is the joint-fifth-highest wicket taker in the competition with 13 wickets. Luke Hollman is the Club’s second-highest wicket taker with eight.
It is worth noting that tomorrow’s match is at Radlett. As Hampshire finished second in Group A, they should be hosting the game, however, due to Southern Brave taking on Welsh Fire at the Utilita Bowl they have exercised their right to concede home advantage.
Tomorrow’s opponents won six of their group games, only losing to Nottinghamshire and Group A winners Worcestershire.
Former Middlesex batter, Nick Gubbins, is the competition’s leading run-scorer having amassed 658 runs in eight innings at an average of 131.60, notching two centuries and four half-centuries. Ali Orr is their second-highest run-scorer with 356 runs to his name.
On the bowling front, spinner Andy Neal, is Hampshire’s leading wicket taker with 12 scalps and best figures of 3/33. Young seamer, Eddie Jack, has also impressed taking 11 wickets.
