As we enter the home stretch of the Metro Bank One-Day Cup, Middlesex Women travel to Leicester tomorrow to take on the Foxes at Uptonsteel County Ground.
Head Coach, Marc Broom, has named a squad of 13 for the clash, featuring six changes from last week’s emphatic victory over Derbyshire at Merchant Taylors’. Hannah Davis, Anisha Dissanayake, Artemis Downer, and Katie Wolfe return, while Hannah Francis is named in the group for the first time.
As announced yesterday, Ariana Dowse has joined Middlesex on a short-term loan from Essex, with the former Sunrisers wicket-keeper batter included in tomorrow’s squad.
Middlesex head into the contest unbeaten in the competition and top of the table, following last week’s dominant eight-wicket win over Derbyshire. Anaya Patel and Lauren Turner starred with the ball, bowling the visitors out for 76, before Middlesex chased down the target inside ten overs, sealed by Issy Routledge’s winning boundary in a total of 79/2.
Leicestershire, meanwhile, sit eighth in the standings with one win from seven matches. That victory came against Kent in May, bowling them out for 117 before chasing the target in 24 overs. Most recently, the Foxes fell to the Sharks by 56 runs last week, though there were bright spots in the form of half-centuries from Becki Brooker and Prisha Thanawala.
Middlesex have met Leicestershire only once this season, in the Women’s Vitality Blast League Two semi-final at Northampton, where Middlesex claimed a 10-wicket win in a rain-reduced chase before going on to beat Yorkshire in the final to lift the trophy.
Victory on Saturday would guarantee Middlesex a place in the One-Day Cup semi-finals, with the top four progressing. Sitting four points clear of second-placed Glamorgan, Middlesex will also be looking to extend their unbeaten run to seven matches, with just two group games remaining after this weekend.
