The Middlesex Junior Cricket Association (MJCA) enjoyed one of its finest years in 2025 with two of its junior sides – Sunbury U15s and Old Merchant Taylors U13s – playing in Finals at Lord’s. The matches took place on Sunday 14 September.
Sunbury won their final by defeating Didsbury CC by 8 runs on the main ground at Lord’s. Batting first Sunbury posted 130/6 in their 20 overs, and it proved too much as they restricted Didsbury to 122/4. Sunbury victory, secured in front of sizeable support, allowed the side to become the first junior team from the club to win a National Cup.

Sadly, the weather intervened in Old Merchant Taylors (OMTs) match against Cavaliers & Carrington CC, with both teams having to settle for a share of the trophy. OMTs had reached 79/6 in 10 overs when rain ended play on the Nursery Ground.
The weather prevented a Middlesex club from winning this competition for the third year in a row. Last year, Richmond won this competition, with Ealing being victorious in 2023. The disappointment of not winning at Lord’s should not detract from what has been an outstanding summer for OMTs U13s.
Along with winning regional matches and reaching the national final the team were Middlesex West Area League Champions, Middlesex County Cup winners and Middlesex League Knockout Cup winners.
OMTs U13s were not the only winners from the club, who had a magnificent season. Their Under 11s won the League Knockout Cup, and their U17s won the Championship League Knockout Cup.
In the boys’ competitions Sunbury won two trophies too – U15 County Cup and the U17s Chairman’s Cup.
The girls’ competitions were dominated by Ealing and Highgate, who won two trophies each. Sunbury showed that it is not just in boys’ cricket they excel by winning the U15 League Knockout Cup.
To see Middlesex teams competing in National Finals is a wonderful thing but whether we have teams playing at Lord’s or not junior cricket in the county has much to be proud of. Most counties can only dream of matching the number of games organised amongst clubs, which in 2025 was approximately 2,600. And the great thing is it is still growing. In 2025 there were more teams playing more games than ever before.
The amazing thing is that the MJCA’s cricket offering for 2025 has not finished. Far from it. On 8 November, the indoor cricket season begins in a number of sports halls across the county. These competitions will involve at least 38 clubs and matches will be played during the weekends of school terms until 21 March. There are 10 age group categories for boys and girls, which will, in total, result in a further 500+ matches being organised and played.
The organisation and running of all these matches the does not just happen – it requires an enormous amount of work from an enormous number of people. On behalf of Middlesex in the Community, and the young boys and girls that play each week, could we thank all the volunteers for their time, care and commitment to junior cricket in Middlesex. We are incredibly fortunate to have you and without your effort tens of thousands of boys and girls would not be given the opportunity to play this wonderful game.
Below is a list of the winning teams in the summer of 2025. Congratulations to the winners and I hope all those that took part had an enjoyable and rewarding summer.
