With the cricket season having reached its conclusion, we have entered the time of year when Middlesex in the Community (MITC) would like to start thanking all the volunteers and helpers that support and care for the game. Without the time and effort these people put into cricket the game would not be able to function as it does.
On Friday at Lord’s, during the tea interval on day three of the Rothesay County Championship match between Middlesex and Gloucestershire, MITC said a small thank you to the umpires and scorers that oversee and document the game. MITC did this by providing members of the Middlesex Association of Cricket Officials (MACO) with tickets and Pavilion passes to Lord’s for the day.
Between 30 and 40 members attended and a number of the officials joined two members of MITC’s staff, Angus Fraser and Raj Nath, during the tea interval for a refreshment on the Coronation Garden behind the Warner Stand.
MACO, in collaboration with MITC, will be running a number of umpiring and scoring courses during the off season. Cricket, like every sport, needs and wants more officials – umpires and scorers – because they are crucial to the game.
