WINTER WATCH | MIDDLESEX PLAYERS OVERSEAS

Whilst many players will begin training ahead of the 2026 season at Merchant Taylors’ School next month, a number of the playing group are jetting off overseas this winter for their cricket fix. We wish all those players who are abroad all the very best for the winter ahead!

Leus du Plooy – Mississauga Masters, Canada

Middlesex Captain, Leus du Plooy, recently featured in the inaugural edition of the Canada Super 60 competition, competing for Mississauga Masters.

Leus finished the campaign as leading run scorer, with 238 runs, at an average of 47.60. His highest score of the campaign being a rapid-fire 68 off just 26 balls against White Rock Warriors. The Masters finished the group stage in second place with three wins from five games, qualifying for the knockout stage, however suffered a nine-wicket defeat to Brampton Blitz in the semi-final.

Ryan Higgins – Montreal Royal Tigers, Canada

Middlesex all-rounder, Ryan Higgins, also hopped across the pond to Canada earlier this month to feature in the Canada Super 60.

Higgins finished the campaign with eight wickets, the joint-sixth highest in the competition, with an average of 16.87. He managed only 26 runs with the bat throughout the campaign. His side finished fourth in the group stage, with three wins from five. Higgins picked up his best figures of the campaign in the semi-final, where the Royal Tigers defeated Vancouver Kings by 24 runs. They were defeated in the final by eight wickets as Brampton Blitz chased down the target of 70 with 25 balls remaining.

Ben Geddes – Perth CC, Perth, Australia

Middlesex’s one-day Captain, Ben Geddes, will journey to Western Australia in December to re-join Perth Cricket Club for the third year in a row.

The batter scored 199 runs in red-ball competition last year averaging 39.80, with a high-score of 109, helping his side to the quarter-finals of the competition. Perth went back-to-back in the one-day competition, completing a 96-run victory over University, with Geddes scoring 24 in the final.

Luke Hollman – Tea Tree Gully CC, Adelaide, Australia

Following a successful winter with the Bulls last season, where he received the club-wide player of the season award, all-rounder Luke Hollman will return to the Adelaide outfit once again this winter.

Luke finished as the leading run-scorer in the SACA West End first Grade last season with 645 runs at an average of 58.64; an accolade which helped him secure a spot in the SACA team of the year. With the ball he took 22 wickets throughout the season at an average of 22.09. In the one-day competition, Luke scored 157 runs at an average of 52.33, which helped guide the Bulls into the semi-final, where they were defeated by 11 runs. His performance in the competition saw him pick up the Lehmann medal, which is awarded to the player of the competition. Luke took nine wickets in the T20 competition, the joint-third highest, with best figures of 5/6.

Josh de Caires – Sturt District CC, Adelaide, Australia

Josh de Caires will return to Adelaide in the coming weeks to line up for Sturt District CC for the second year.

Featuring from rounds two to seven, Josh helped the blues secure a first-place finish in the group stages with 211 runs, at an average of 26.38, also taking four wickets in the competition. In T20 competition, de Caires finished as joint-third highest wicket taker, alongside fellow Middlesex teammate Luke Hollman, with nine wickets at an average of nine.

Nathan Fernandes – Port Adelaide CC, Adelaide, Australia

Nathan Fernandes has travelled to South Australia to play for Port Adelaide CC this winter. Having won the SACA First Grade Premier in 2023/24 – Fernandes will be hoping to help his side to a second Premier in three years.

Max Holden – Desert Vipers

Max Holden will be heading to Dubai once again for the ILT20, where he will represent Desert Vipers.

Last year, he helped the side reach the final. In the four matches that he played, he scored 230 runs at an average of 76.66, with a best score of 76.

In 2023, he also featured in the competition for Dubai Capitals – helping them reach the final also.

Caleb Falconer, Jamie Feldman, Jack Nelson, Sebastian MorganEngland Under 19s, St Vincent

In addition to all the players playing club and franchise cricket, four of our youngsters are flying off to the Caribbean in November to play a series of white-ball matches against USA and West Indies.

The tour, which includes seven Youth One-Day Internationals, will act as preparation for the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup which takes place in Namibia and Zimbabwe in early 2026.

Both Jamie Feldman and Sebastian Morgan featured in the men’s First Eleven in 2025 across red-ball and white-ball formats. They, along with Caleb Falconer (uncapped) and Jack Nelson, will be hoping to make an impact and leave a positive impression before the World Cup squad is selected.
