Middlesex Women produced another strong all-round performance yesterday as they secured a commanding 106-run victory over Kent Women.
After electing to bat first, Middlesex posted an impressive 160/6 from their 20 overs, led by an excellent innings from captain Saskia Horley. The bowlers then backed up the batting display with a disciplined performance to dismiss Kent for 54 in 13.4 overs.
Middlesex suffered an early setback when Abbie Whybrow was dismissed in the opening over, but Issy Routledge and Horley quickly rebuilt the innings and took control.
The pair added 109 for the second-wicket in a partnership that placed Kent under sustained pressure throughout the middle overs. Horley was particularly aggressive, reaching her half-century from only 36 deliveries in an innings featuring ten fours and a six. She eventually fell for 70 from 50 balls after anchoring Middlesex’s innings.
Routledge provided strong support at the other end with a composed 26 from 28 deliveries, helping lay the platform for Middlesex’s imposing total.
The innings maintained its momentum late on thanks to Finty Trussler, who struck 25 from 18 balls, including two sixes. Riva Pindoria also added a valuable 14 before being run out in the closing stages.
Although Middlesex lost a couple of wickets late in the innings, Scarlett Hughes finished unbeaten on 6 as Middlesex closed on 160/6 from their 20 overs.
Middlesex then made the ideal start with the ball as Sonali Patel dismissed Amy Gordon with the first delivery of the innings.
Kent never recovered from the early pressure as wickets continued to fall regularly. Katie Wolfe produced an outstanding spell through the middle overs, finishing with figures of 5/19 from her four overs; she became the first player in Middlesex Women history to take a five-wicket haul.
Wolfe removed Coco Streets, Maddie Blinkhorn-Jones, Hollie Young, Zeena Bilal and Isabella James during a decisive spell that left Kent struggling throughout the chase.
Patel also claimed two wickets, dismissing both Amy Gordon and Kelly Castle, while Middlesex’s fielding remained sharp throughout. Hannah Davis and Hughes combined for a run out to remove Elsa Barnfather, before Anaya Patel claimed the wicket of Sydney Gorham late in the innings.
Kent were reduced to 36/6 inside the powerplay and never threatened Middlesex’s total, eventually being bowled out for 54 in 13.4 overs.
It was another impressive all-round display from Middlesex, with Horley’s innings setting up the victory before the bowlers delivered a clinical performance to complete an emphatic win.
