MATCH REPORT | MIDDLESEX WOMEN V WORCESTERSHIRE WOMEN | METRO BANK ONE-DAY CUP

Middlesex Women continue their win streak to secure a seven-wicket victory over Worcestershire Rapids Women in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup at Radlett Cricket Club yesterday.

After a disciplined effort with the ball saw Worcestershire dismissed for 217, Middlesex chased confidently, reaching 220/3 in just 38.3 overs. The innings was underpinned by three outstanding half-centuries from Pippa Sproul, Georgia Irving, and captain Saskia Horley.

Having lost the toss and been put into the field, Middlesex made early inroads. The visitors were reduced to 24/1 with Sonali Patel bowling out Gwen Davies, before a steady rebuild from Clare Boycott and Ebony-Jade Tweats took Worcestershire to 79/2.

Middlesex, however, continued to chip away at regular intervals. Saskia Horley led the attack superbly, claiming 3/37 from 9.5 overs, while Rachana Cambampaty matched her with an excellent 3/36. Sonali Patel also impressed with 2/24, ensuring Worcestershire were unable to build any significant partnerships.

Worcestershire's Sanya Khurana provided late resistance with 42 from 34 balls, but Middlesex remained in control throughout, eventually bowling Worcestershire out for 217 with seven balls of the innings remaining.

In reply, Middlesex made a steady start before building a match-winning platform through a crucial second-wicket partnership.

After Finty Trussler fell early for 8, Pippa Sproul and Georgia Irving combined brilliantly, adding 101 runs for the second-wicket. Sproul led the way with 73 from 86 balls, striking 11 boundaries in a controlled and confident innings. She brought up her half-century in 60 deliveries, setting the tone for the chase.

Irving played the perfect supporting role before accelerating, reaching her own half-century from 80 balls. She remained unbeaten on 70 from 93 deliveries, anchoring the innings with composure.

Following Sproul’s dismissal, captain Saskia Horley ensured there would be no late drama. She produced an excellent, attacking innings of 56 from just 40 balls, including nine fours and two sixes, bringing Middlesex to the brink of victory with a rapid half-century off just 37 deliveries.

Horley was dismissed late in the chase, but Irving and Gaya Gole saw Middlesex home comfortably, completing the victory with more than 11 overs to spare.

It was a complete performance from Middlesex, with the bowlers setting the tone before a clinical chase, highlighted by three half-centuries and a century stand, secured a convincing win.

The result continues Middlesex’s unbeaten start to the Metro Bank One-Day Cup, as they build momentum with another all round display at Radlett.
