MATCH REPORT | GLAMORGAN V MIDDLESEX | VITALITY BLAST

Glamorgan’s form across formats shows no sign of ending after an assertive six-wicket win over suffering Middlesex in the Vitality Blast.

Sean Dickson (67 not out) and Asa Tribe (46) shared a 96-run stand to see Glamorgan home for a precarious position chasing Middlesex’s 153 for 7. Mason Crane earlier took 4 for 24 to seemingly control the innings but Eathan Bosch and Seb Morgan’s unbeaten eighth-wicket stand of 40 kept the visitors competitive.

The strong form continues for Glamorgan after a County Championship win over Surrey last weekend and a heroic Blast win at Blackpool last time out. Middlesex’s struggles continue as they will remain bottom of the South Group, hampered by missing key players.

Despite being 8 for 1 from the first two overs, Middlesex managed to enjoy an explosive powerplay – Joe Cracknell and debutant overseas Matt Boyle making starts into the innings with Glamorgan’s second over inroad halted.

Both settled batters being removed within six balls of each other, Boyle to Nathan McAndrew in the sixth and Crane the first ball outside the powerplay to make Middlesex start from scratch.

Ben Geddes found a way to take double figures from overs while sensibly, and contently taking just two from consecutive overs also in a controlled manner before being run out by the quick-thinking Kiran Carlson.

Bosch and Morgan’s eighth wicket dug Middlesex out of the hole with 17 from the final over to set a competitive score.

Glamorgan would rue a couple of dropped catches late in the innings which has otherwise been a strength for the Welsh county – showcased by Carlson’s run out and a smart catch from Asa Tribe to dismiss Leus du Plooy.

Glamorgan’s reply couldn’t have got off to a worse start. Captain Carlson, fresh off a wildcard selection in The Hundred, was dismissed cheaply first ball of the innings flicking Zafar Gohar to square leg.

Ben Kellaway found his luck in a T20 campaign that has looked indifferent, unsettling and ungraceful. The franchise youngster had boundaries edges over Cracknell and whistling past his right hand in consecutive overs.

From a sluggish start, and Will Smale falling to a stunning one-handed catch from Luke Hollman – who also offered great control with the ball – Glamorgan soon picked up the rate with the oozing confidence, and luxury of Asa Tribe and Sean Dickson at positions four and five.

The pair took needing 80 from 10 overs with no fear. Dickson enjoyed ramping the seamers, while Tribe offered rotation before taking over the show as the runs required whittled down, slog-sweeping Hollman to within one hit before ceremoniously departing.
