Middlesex Women produced another impressive all-round performance in the Vitality Blast, defeating Derbyshire Falcons Women by 64 runs at Merchant Taylors' School.
After being asked to bat first, Middlesex posted 154/3 from their 20 overs, led by an unbeaten half-century from Pippa Sproul. In reply, Derbyshire were replied with 90/9 as Middlesex secured a comprehensive victory.
Middlesex made a steady start through opening pair Finty Trussler and Pippa Sproul, who shared a valuable first-wicket partnership worth 85 runs. The pair laid a strong foundation, taking Middlesex to 50 inside the seventh over before continuing to build through the middle stages of the innings.
Trussler was the first wicket to fall, dismissed for 33 from 35 deliveries after striking four boundaries. Her partnership with Sproul provided the platform for Middlesex to accelerate later in the innings.
Sproul remained the dominant figure throughout the innings and brought up an excellent half-century from just 37 balls. The wicketkeeper-batter continued to find the boundary regularly and finished unbeaten on 83 from 57 deliveries, an innings containing 11 fours and her best for Middlesex.
Captain Saskia Horley fell shortly after for five, while Gaya Gole added seven before becoming Derbyshire's third wicket. However, Sproul found further support from Georgia Irving, who contributed an unbeaten 18 from 13 balls as the pair guided Middlesex to a competitive total of 154/3.
Derbyshire's chase got off to a bad start when Jess Couser was run out in the second over with just two runs on the board.
Ria Fackrell attempted to counterattack with 16, but Middlesex struck twice in successive deliveries through Lauren Turner, who removed both Fackrell and Frances Lonsdale to leave the visitors struggling at 28/3 inside the powerplay.
The pressure continued to build as Rachana Cambampaty claimed the wicket of Rebecca Duckworth before Hannah Davis produced a decisive spell through the middle and latter stages of the innings.
Davis first removed Malisha Tennakoon before returning to dismiss both Prisha Bedi and RhiannonKnowling-Davies in consecutive deliveries, finishing with outstanding figures of 3/10 from her four overs, including a maiden.
Derbyshire captain Adrianna Darlow was unable to spark a recovery, falling for eight after being caught behind off Alice Whitmore, while another sharp run out accounted for Matilda Atherton-Gater. Lauren Turner also impressed with the ball, returning figures of 2/17 from her four overs, while Cambampaty's spell yielded 1/14.
With wickets falling regularly around her, Derbyshire were unable to maintain the required scoring rate.
Derbyshire closed on 90/9 from their 20 overs, leaving Middlesex comfortable winners by 64 runs.
Sproul's unbeaten 83 provided the backbone of the Middlesex innings, while Davis, Turner and Cambampaty combined to produce a disciplined bowling performance that sealed another convincing Vitality Blast victory.
