UPDATE ON SWYNCOMBE AVENUE

Middlesex County Cricket Club is pleased to share a significant update on the continued development of the QEII Ground on Swyncombe Avenue, Brentford, as we strengthen our commitment to providing outstanding facilities for women’s and girls’ cricket.

The ground continues to play an increasingly important role within Middlesex’s strategic direction for female cricket, with girls’ cricket thriving on site so far. The facility now hosts regular activity, including midweek pathway training sessions, weekend programmes, friendly fixtures and competitive matches. The brilliant playing experiences for the girls’ at QEII has been one of the ground’s greatest success stories and continues to demonstrate the importance of investing in dedicated high performance facilities that support the development of current and future generations of Middlesex players.

A major milestone currently being delivered is the installation of new ball-stop netting, which will further enhance both safety and playing performance on the site for participants and neighbouring residents alike. We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Foresport, whose professionalism and expertise have been instrumental throughout the project.

The recently completed non-turf pitch is already proving a valuable addition to the facility. Installed by Slatter’s and Co using the ECB-approved Notts Sport system, the high-specification product is helping to increase playing capacity and training opportunities across the site.

Further investment is also imminent, with Middlesex preparing to receive a suite of tractor-mounted groundcare equipment manufactured by DW Tomlin. This investment will help deliver the highest possible quality fine-turf playing experience for women and girls using the ground. We are particularly pleased that DW Tomlin combines exceptional product quality with outstanding value, while its owner and director, Richard Tomlin, is also a long-standing and highly engaged Middlesex member. Richard’s support and commitment to cricket across Middlesex will also be extended across the county’s clubs, grounds, and contractors

The ground will soon benefit from the installation of a Quickscore QS100 electronic scoreboard, enhancing the matchday experience for players, officials and spectators while also creating additional revenue-generating opportunities for the venue. We look forward to communicating across our club network more about these products and opportunities, We would also like to thank Ark Build PLC for their generous sponsorship of the new ground covers, which are now installed and in regular use.

Looking ahead, the completion of the ball-stop netting works will enable a further increase in women’s and girls’ cricket activity over the coming weeks. Middlesex will also undertake a series of minor accessibility and building improvements before then engaging once again with local residents to share updates and gather feedback on further developed masterplans for the site’s future.

The forthcoming planning application to London Borough of Hounslow will seek approval for a transformational vision, including a new pavilion designed primarily for women's use, the additional of other female focused sporting facilities, comprehensive landscaping and biodiversity net gain measures.
