Middlesex Women were beaten by 78 runs by Glamorgan Women in their Vitality Blast Women League 2 clash at Sophia Gardens after the hosts posted 185/4 before dismissing Middlesex for 107.
Having won the toss and elected to bowl, Middlesex made an encouraging start by restricting Glamorgan during the opening exchanges, but a superb innings from Daisy Jeanes helped the home side build an imposing total of 185/4 from their 20 overs.
Jeanes and Glamorgan captain Lauren Parfitt laid the foundations with an opening partnership of 94 inside 10 overs. The pair took advantage of the powerplay, which yielded 66 runs, before Hannah Davis made the breakthrough by trapping Parfitt lbw for a fluent 43 from 29 deliveries, including nine boundaries.
Middlesex continued to battle hard in the middle overs as Artemis Downer removed Megan Sturge for six, with Scarlett Hughes completing the stumping, before Lauren Turner claimed two wickets in the closing stages of the innings.
Turner first dismissed the well-set Jeanes for an excellent 86 from 53 balls, an innings featuring 11 fours and a six, before producing a return catch to remove Bethan Gammon for 31 from 23 deliveries after the pair had shared an important 57-run stand.
Despite those breakthroughs, late boundaries from Megan McColl, who finished unbeaten on 12 from seven balls, helped Glamorgan close on 185/4.
Turner was the pick of the Middlesex attack with figures of 2/22 from her three overs, while Davis and Downer each claimed a wicket.
Chasing 186, Middlesex were immediately put under pressure as Glamorgan's bowlers made regular inroads with the new ball.
Eve Jackson struck twice inside the opening four overs, removing Artemis Downer and Scarlett Hughes, before captain Saskia Horley was caught for 12 as Middlesex slipped to 23/3 during the powerplay.
Riva Pindoria and Pippa Sproul looked to rebuild the innings, with Sproul top-scoring for Middlesex with 27 from 25 balls, while Pindoria added 19. However, Jackson returned to bowl Pindoria and end the partnership before Sara Phillips claimed the wicket of Sproul shortly afterwards.
Finty Trussler contributed 14 and Abbie Whybrow made 10, but Glamorgan continued to take wickets at regular intervals. Phillips finished with 3/24, while Jackson claimed impressive figures of 4/24 as Middlesex were bowled out for 107 in 18.2 overs.
Middlesex will now look to respond when they return to Vitality Blast action on Sunday against Sussex Sharks.
