JACK DAVIES RETIRES FROM PROFESSIONAL CRICKET

Middlesex Cricket can today announce that wicketkeeper-batter Jack Davies has retired from professional cricket.

Davies, now 26, joined the Middlesex Elite Player Group from Berkshire in the winter of 2016/17 and the following summer made both his Under-17 and Second Eleven debuts for Middlesex and went on to make twenty-three Second Eleven appearances for the club across all formats that summer.

In December 2017, Davies earned himself a call-up to the England Under-19 set-up for their series in South Africa, before then being selected in England’s Under-19 World Cup squad for the tournament in New Zealand in January.

His breakthrough season came in the summer of 2020 when he made his first-class debut for Middlesex in the Bob Willis Trophy, against Kent in Canterbury. Later that season, he made his T20 debut for the club, featuring in four Vitality Blast matches. He made his List A debut for Middlesex in 2021, featuring five times in the Royal London Cup and scoring 164 runs at an average of 32.8.

When John Simpson left the club at the end of 2023, Davies was entrusted with the gloves and featured in all fourteen of Middlesex’s County Championship fixtures that season. Opportunities became more limited for Davies during 2025, and he has been unable to regain his place as the club’s gloveman since that time.

Since making his debut, Davies has featured over 100 times for Middlesex across all three formats, scoring over 2,000 runs and claiming 88 dismissals as a wicketkeeper.

Having now left the club, Davies will partake in a charity event raising money for the Brompton Fountain and the Cricketers’ Trust; he’ll be running 24 marathons in 24 days around Battersea Park, starting on September 3rd. You can support Jack by clicking HERE.

On Davies leaving the Club, Middlesex Cricket’s Managing Director of Cricket, Alan Coleman, commented:

“It is always sad when we say goodbye to players, especially when they have given as much as Jack has to the club.

"It's been my personal pleasure to work closely with Jack since he joined the club as a 16-year-old, and he should be incredibly proud of what he has achieved.

"We wish him well for the future, and he will always be welcome back to the club. Jack will welcome all support from the club and our members as he embarks on his next challenge away from the game."

Jack Davies said

“I’m very thankful to everybody that’s given me support on my journey as a Middlesex player. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time at the club, thank you to all my teammates, and I wish them and the club all the best in the future.”
