SQUAD NEWS & MATCH PREVIEW | MIDDLESEX V KENT | ROTHESAY COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP

Men’s Head Coach Peter Fulton has named a squad of 13 for our Rothesay County Championship clash against Kent at Merchat Taylors’ School.

Ryan Higgins returns to the squad after a wrist injury kept him out of action for the best part of two months. Also returning from injury is Sam Robson, who sustained a knee injury midway through the Metro Bank One-Day Cup. Naavya Sharma is absent from the squad this week due to sitting a University exam. This also provides a good opportunity for the 20-year-old quick to have some rest after a busy period.

Noah Cornwell has been named in the squad, the left-arm seamer impressed in the One-Day Cup, finishing with 15 wickets in nine matches. Also in the squad, following an impressive List A campaign, is Nathan Fernandes. Both are yet to feature in a County Championship fixture this year.

With Fernandes in the squad, Fulton may look to alter his top order for this one. Fernandes could replace Ben Geddes as Robson’s opening partner, with Geddes dropping down the order, where he has batted most often since joining Middlesex ahead of the 2025 season.

Leus du Plooy will captain the side; he recently won The Hundred with Manchester Super Giants alongside fellow left-hander Max Holden. The pair are Middlesex's leading run-scorers in red-ball cricket this year with 728 and 625 respectively; Du Plooy will be eyeing up a second consecutive season surpassing 1,000 runs with six games left in the competition.

Middlesex fans will be delighted to see Ryan Higgins back; the all-rounder is Middlesex’s leading wicket-taker this year with 28 to his name. Toby Roland-Jones isn’t far behind with 26. The Middlesex veteran has enjoyed bowling with the red ball at Merchant Taylors’; he’s taken 32 wickets in the six first-class games played at the venue, with three five-fors.

Kent won the reverse fixture this year, coming out on top by 49 runs in Canterbury. The Spitfires currently occupy second place in the Division Two table, with Middlesex down in fourth just 18 points behind them.

Play is scheduled to get underway at 11am on all four days. If you can’t make the match, you can follow the action live on YouTube. You can also stay up to date across our social media channels.
