Whilst Middlesex’s men and women were winning silverware at Bristol and Trent Bridge for the county on Sunday 20 September 2026, the family and friends of one of the club’s former players, Martin Olley, were competing for a Trophy too.
Martin sadly passed away on 28 June 2025 and his family and friends organised the Martin Olley Memorial Golf day at Colmworth Cricket Club to remember and celebrate the life of the former Middlesex wicket-keeper. Twenty six golfers entered the competition and the winner was Barry Button, who collected 35 stableford points on the peaceful and rural course.
The day was also used to support a charity of the families choice, and through organising a raffle and small auction the sum of £1,460 was passed on to Middlesex in the Community. MITC would like to thank the Olley family for its support.
Prior to the golf day starting Angus Fraser, the External Relations Director of Middlesex in the Community and former Middlesex and England cricketer, dropped into Colmworth Golf Club to present Linda Olley, Martin’s widow, with his Ceremonial Middlesex Cap. Olley played with Fraser in 1988, and took three of his nine Middlesex catches off his bowling.
Along with having Martin’s name on its peak the cap had the number 607 on it. This is because Martin is the 607th cricketer to play 1st Class cricket for Middlesex.
Speaking about the day, Linda Olley said: “My brother James Dolling and I held a Golf Day in memory of my late husband, Martin Olley, a former Middlesex CCC player. We held a raffle and auction to raise funds for Middlesex in the Community. It seemed very apt to combine two of Martin’s passions - golf and cricket.
“We had a wonderful day, great (and not so great) golf and good banter and it was made even more special by an early morning visit of Angus Fraser en route to Trent Bridge! Martin was definitely beaming down on us and we are proud to support such a worthy cause.”
