Historical references show that by the 16th century cricket was being played in London/Middlesex, but Middlesex County Cricket Club, as we know it today, wasn’t formally constitutionalised until 2 February 1864.
Middlesex CCC played its first 1st Class Match later that year, on 6 & 7 June 1864. The game was against Sussex and took place at The Cattle Market Ground in Islington. Middlesex won the game by an innings and 52 runs.
Middlesex in the Community is celebrating the birth of one of English cricket’s most important and influential counties, and raising valuable funding to support the wonderful work it performs, by creating the 1864 Club.
The 1864 Club is Middlesex in the Community’s Regular Giving Offer.
By making a regular contribution to Middlesex in the Community, you are helping us to commit to projects and programmes that will have a positive impact on the lives of members of our community. Regular gifts can be made by direct debit or standing order on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis.
You can donate any amount of your choice or relate it to the year Middlesex CCC was founded, such as £1.86, £18.64, £186.40, or £1,864.
Alternatively, the 1864 Club also welcomes single gifts of £500 or more.
At Middlesex in the Community we divide donations by £25. This is because £25 is the going rate for an hour of specialist coaching. So a monthly donation of £18.64 will allow us to deliver a day and a half of coaching at one the Primary Schools we visit in Middlesex.
What does it involve and how do I become a member?
You can become member by donating just £18.64 per month to Middlesex in the Community.
As a thank you, once your contribution has passed £500 Middlesex in the Community will present you with a bespoke 1864 Club Aspinal handcrafted leather gift.
If you would like to become a member or have a conversation about becoming a member please email Middlesex in the Community at [email protected] or Angus Fraser at [email protected]
