MATCH RESULT - MIDDLESEX WIN BY 1 WICKET

Middlesex Second Eleven - 251/9

Somerset Second Eleven - 250 all out

SCORECARD HERE

After winning the toss and deciding to bat first, Somerset began their innings on the front foot, attempting to set a positive tone for their 50 overs from the off.

However, Tom Barber had other ideas, and in his second over he bowled a beautiful in-swinger to Captain Myburgh, who was left without a middle stump with the score at 17-1.

Wickets fell at regular intervals over the next 15 overs, and Sowter secured his second of the innings with the score at 76-4 from 17.

However, once Lammonby & Green came together, the pair were able produce some lovely shots to drive the score past 100 and beyond.

The two went on to build Somerset’s most prolific partnership of the day, and both eventually went on to half centuries for the visitors. Wickets from Walallawita and Sowter undid their good work however, and in the 35th over Somerset were slightly struggling on 176-6.

Trenouth resisted Middlesex’s attack for a while longer, playing well for his 45 before eventually falling victim to Tom Barber with the score at 250-9.

Tom Barber wrapped up proceeedings wth the very next delivery, bowling another beauty to hit Salt’s off stump, meaning Middlesex were given a target of 251 for victory in the Trophy Final.

Nathan Sowter & Tom Barber were the pick of Middlesex’s bowlers, getting figures of 3-47 & 3-50 respectively.

Middlesex got off to the perfect start to their innings, with George Scott hitting consecutive boundaries from the first two deliveries to set the tone.

Andersson and Scott batted aggressively in the opening overs, putting on a partnership of 112 for the opening wicket, putting Middlesex comfortably in charge in the early stages.

However, wickets began to fall after Andersson departed for 54, and by the time Scott was eventually dismissed for 79, Middlesex were in trouble with the score at 167-5.

Despite being well above the required run rate, Middlesex began to fear the worst with just 9 overs left, as Overton managed to bowl two stunning deliveries in a row to bowl Sowter and Hollman consecutively.

The day seemed to be all but over once Lace departed in the first ball of the next over, with another 31 still required with just 1 wicket remaining.

However, Thilan Walallawita & Tom Barber batted superbly, and in the remaining overs slowly crept towards 250 with some expansive shots.

With the tension so high, the two maintained their composure at the crease, and Walallawita pulled a short ball for 4 to level the scores. Tom Barber then secured the winning runs, to a rapturous applause from the onlooking crowd.

Much to their delight, Middlesex managed to win by 1 wicket, with the final pair putting on a final wicket stand of 31.
