Middlesex County Cricket Club presented youth caps to four of its junior squads on Sunday 26 May 2024 at Merchant Taylors School.
Angus Fraser, the former Middlesex and England cricketer, presented players from Middlesex’s U11, U12, U13 and U14 squads with their county caps on the steps of the school cricket pavilion. Also in attendance were closing in on a hundred parents and family, who proudly watch their son collect a prized item of achievement.
Before presenting the players with their caps Fraser spoke about each of the caps he had collected during his career, starting with his Stanmore CC cap and ending with a ceremonial cap he was awarded, which represented his achievements with England.
Commenting on the presentation Fraser said: ‘The presentation of these caps is a lovely moment. It is special and important in so many ways. In cricket, players collect caps during their career and at the end they will own quite a few. These caps will show you your journey – where you started and where you ended up. Each of the caps represents a team with a rich and proud history and on of the roles of every cricketer is try to ensure they have a positive impact on the history of the club they are representing.
‘Each of these young cricketers should take pride in the fact they have been presented with these caps. By receiving them they have already achieved a lot. What makes these moments great is the fact that I stand there amongst them wondering which ones will be playing in the 1st XI in 8-10 years-time. One thing is for sure – a few of them will, which is a brilliant thought.’
