ECB Support Coach

The ECB Support Coach programme is the assistant coach provision for cricket coaching in England and Wales. This programme is part of a strategic response to needing more coaches on the ground able to inspire and develop players.

The programme will make becoming a coach much more accessible in terms of time commitment and cost.

ECB Support Coach will replace the current Coach Support Worker provision.

What does the programme equip an individual to do?

This programme has been designed to give learners the knowledge, skills, and confidence to support qualified coaches. An ECB Support Coach is not qualified to lead coaching sessions independently and therefore must be supervised by a qualified cricket coach.

What is the cost of the programme?

Normally £40.00 at the point of registration but thanks to generous support by ECB, Middlesex can offer these courses free of charge until September 2021.

What is the minimum age for entry?

Learners can take the programme at 16 years of age.

Is first aid a certification pre-requisite?

No. However, deploying bodies will need to ensure that assistant coaches have the appropriate training.

Is safeguarding a certification pre-requisite?

Yes. The face-to-face element is covered in during module two and accompanied by the online SYC module and multiple-choice questionnaire.

Is a DBS a pre-requisite?

Yes, an ECB DBS is required for certification.

ECB Foundation I Coach is a coach development programme and qualification that has been created to help more people take their first steps into coaching cricket.

This programme has been designed to give learners the knowledge, skills and confidence to coach cricket sessions that are active, purposeful, enjoyable and safe.

An ECB Foundation I Coach will be qualified to lead coaching sessions independently and without supervision.

Who is it for?

Anyone aged 17 and over wishing to become qualified to coach cricket, inspire players and make a difference to the game.

This course is designed to help to develop your confidence and equip you with the knowledge, understanding and applied skills to lead coaching sessions for young people and adults and create safe, enjoyable, stimulating player-centred coaching environments.

Who should attend?

For coaches who are going to predominantly coach young people and adults (13 years+).


Pre-requisites for certification


Wednesday 4th & Thursday 5th August: 6-9pm virtual classroom delivery for modules 1&2.

Sunday 8th August & Sunday 15th August, face to face modules 3-7: 10am - 5pm at William Perkin School, Greenford, UB6 8PR.

The cost is £325.00.

UKCC2 Assessments
