VACANCY | DIRECTOR OF CRICKET AT ACTON CC

VACANCY | DIRECTOR OF CRICKET AT ACTON CC

Acton CC, founded in 1908, is one of Middlesex’s leading cricket clubs. We field four competitive teams on a Saturday and two teams on a Sunday in addition to a thriving junior cricket set-up.

We are one of London’s most centrally located clubs and enjoy fantastic playing and training facilities in West London. As part of Acton Sports Club, ACC has moved into a brand new, state-of-the-art clubhouse in 2023 that will serve as its home for generations to come and act as a hub for the local Acton community.

Off the field, ACC prides itself on its friendly, supportive and fun culture and team spirit, which has been at the core of the club’s progress in recent years. On the field, ACC’s senior teams have made huge progress in recent years – with all its teams competing for titles and promotions in the Middlesex County Cricket League, and with an outstanding record in senior cup competitions. Our junior teams are consistently punching above their weight – with several juniors selected in representative sides as a result.

We are committed to maintaining these standards and see considerable room for further progress. In particular, we recognise the need for structure in our operations at both junior and senior levels, and the need for a single individual to take ownership of running cricket operations.

Job Role: Director of Cricket for 2024, with an opportunity to extend for a further year.

Reports to: The Club Captain and Chairman

Job Profile: The major focus of this position is to produce continued sustained success across all levels of club cricket, from juniors to senior teams through the development of a strong and sustainable environment, providing a feeder system for the juniors through to senior cricket, and to create a setup for cricketers of all abilities to love and improve their game.

This is a new role at ACC, with substantial opportunities for the right candidate to shape it and make it their own. ACC has always been (and will continue to be) a volunteer-run community club, but we recognise the need for a more formal role to pull together the many pieces of a fast-growing organisation. The Director of Cricket will have the support of the Club Committee, and in particular, benefit from input from the Chairman, the Club/1st XI Captain, and the 2nd XI Captain in carrying out their role.

The ideal candidate will come with a passion for coaching and the energy to create a positive environment for improvement. It should be someone that sets high cricket standards.

The role will be suitable for someone who is looking to create a career out of coaching for the foreseeable future. The person should be organised, energetic, approachable, have strong communication skills and be good at working in a team environment.

Finally, it is vital that the person is someone that buys into the ACC ethos as a whole – from building relationships to attending socials to supporting club members all the way from the 1st XI to the U9s.

Responsibilities:

Location: Acton CC (c/o Acton Sports Club, East Acton Lane, W3 7HB)

Attributes: ECB Level 2 qualification (or above)

Salary: Dependent on experience. We anticipate a base salary, but with incentives depending on the growth of the junior section. Across the Acton Sports Club family, there is a huge pool of juniors – in the region of 500 juniors – and parents to tap into to build a coaching business that the Director of Cricket will have control over. The Director of Cricket will also have the opportunity to do further one-on-one and group sessions with senior members. ACC would also look to facilitate opportunities for the Director of Cricket to build relationships with local schools.

The opportunity to extend the role is designed to provide certainty to the candidate, to foster continuity, and to aid long-term thinking.

Contact Details: Please send your application to the Club Captain, Sahil Kher ([email protected]) and 2nd XI captain Alex Manning ([email protected]).

Deadline: 9 February 2024 with interviews to follow during the w/c 12 February.

ACC is committed to safeguarding and protecting the children and young people that we work with. As such, all roles are subject to a safe recruitment process, including the disclosure of criminal records and vetting checks through an ECB enhanced DBS Certificate and the completion of a relevant Safeguarding and Protecting Children (SPC) or Safeguarding Young Cricketers (SYC) course.
