MIDDLESEX CRICKET | APPOINTMENT OF INDEPENDENT NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

APPOINTMENT OF INDEPENDENT NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Middlesex County Cricket Club is one of the 18 county clubs which take part in the first-class game within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. Since the club’s official foundation in 1864, Middlesex County Cricket Club has, for over a century and a half, been one of the most successful and well-respected first-class counties in the English domestic game.

The club has played at the Home of Cricket, Lord’s Cricket Ground in St John’s Wood, since 1877, and has a proud history of developing many of the game’s greatest known cricketers, including the likes of Denis Compton, Mike Gatting, John Emburey, Sir Andrew Strauss and Eoin Morgan to name but a few.

Middlesex Cricket have submitted a bid to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to become one of the eight First-Class Counties who will operate a tier 1 professional Women’s team from 2025.

The Women’s game is set to go through its biggest evolution since 2020, when Sunrisers were born, the elite Women’s side for London and the East region, who have played in the elite Women’s regional format since its inception in 2021, with Middlesex as the side’s host county.

Middlesex Cricket are seeking to appoint a Non-Executive Director to our Board. Working in partnership with our Chair, Board and CEO, the Director will play a significant role in ensuring good governance, providing check and challenge and helping to drive forward a culture of excellence, and ensure effective working relationships across a wide group of stakeholders. Commercially astute, they will provide support in assessing and evaluating opportunities for the Club as we continue to adapt to a quickly evolving cricket landscape.

The successfully appointed candidate will demonstrate senior leadership experience within their respected field and an enthusiasm to help set strategy, experience in change management and provide guidance and insight to the Board and executive, where appropriate. Strongly inclusive and empathetic in their approach, they will be collaborative and consultative, helping to drive collective decision-making in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment. They will bring a passion for the power of sport and strong appreciation for the role of contemporary governance. They will also demonstrate balanced judgement, absolute integrity and excellent communication skills.

The Director will be an individual of outstanding achievement, with the time, passion and commitment to devote to the Board and associated stakeholders at this important time in the development of the sport. Drawing on established governance experience, they will bring a strong understanding of risk and governance together with a collaborative approach. Financial and commercial acumen will be crucial to success, as will sound judgement, integrity and a collaborative leadership style.

Middlesex would welcome and encourage applications from all qualified individuals who share our vision and ambition to deliver a bright future for cricket in the county. We particularly encourage those from women, Black, Asian and minority ethnic people, those from LGBTQ+ communities, and individuals with disabilities because we would like to increase the representation of these groups at Board level and beyond.
