Mike Gatting OBE

Biography

Born in Kingsbury on the 6th June 1957, Mike initially played club cricket for Brondesbury CC. He joined Middlesex in the summer of 1974 and made his first-class debut in 1975.

Mike scored over 28,000 runs, with 77 hundreds, scoring over 1000 runs a season 17 times, catching over 350 catches and winning 14 trophies with Middlesex. He captained Middlesex from 1983-1997 and scored over 50,000 1st Class runs in his career. Retiring in 1998 he then coached Middlesex in the 1999-2000 seasons.

Mike made his test debut for England in Karachi in 1977, playing 79 tests, captained for 23 tests, and 92 ODI’s, captaining the winning Ashes team in Australia in 1986-7, winning the Wisden cricketer of the year in 1984 and receiving an OBE in 1987.

Mike was also President of the Lord’s Taverners from 2005-2007 and President of the MCC between 2013 and 2014 during it’s Bi-Centenary year and the Middlesex 150th anniversary year.

Currently he is Chairman of the MCC World Cricket Committee, a current member of the MCC General Committee and a Patron of Hong Kong Cricket Club having previously been a Chance to Shine Trustee until January 2018.
